Artists in Residence at C2C Social Action: Lead Artist, 2020-2022

Artists in Residence at C2C Social Action: Lead Artist, 2020-2022

Between 2020 and 2022, I was commissioned as lead artist, project manager and curator for the second iteration of Artists in Residence at C2C Social Action. The project began in March 2020, but was put on pause just before the first lockdown for Covid-19.

Originally, the project was taking place in the C2C Social Action Women’s centre, and now, as with arts organisations worldwide, I was considering how we could continue the project.

C2C Social Action were in the early stages of setting up a scheme called ‘C2C Grows’, which included an allotment space in Northampton. This provided the answer, working, and making art outdoors. This significantly altered the project’s direction and, consequently, my practice and approach as an artist delivering workshops.

Based on my 2019 sound drawing ‘Sounds of Sidhe’,  I’d proposed in my original residency proposal, to create artworks inspired by sound. Almost a year later, when the project re-started in 2020, and working on C2C’s allotment garden, the possibilities expanded exponentially. I designed a series workshops, to all take place outside (unless bad weather dictated otherwise) which were inspired by being and living ‘in’ the outdoors; experiencing it, then, listening, recording, filming, photographing, drawing and printing what was seen, felt and heard.
